Kenny Rens is a Japanese Robata Grill and Whiskey Bar in Bondi. The logo, an illustration of an oak trees’ rings, is a play off the sliding door and range hood, which are both made from charred oak. The typography design is vertical as an homage to traditional Japanese typography, however, we’ve given it a slightly modern twist by spinning “Rens” on it’s side for easier reading.
We used an indigo, navy and charcoal colour palette to match the charred timber and art covering the walls. We also designed the aprons using a Japanese indigo canvas with white pinstripe. This is worn over white tees, black jeans and sneakers, as inspired by the uniforms of the cooler venues in the back streets of Ometesando Japan.
